Derek Lam Violet Satchel

While I've marveled at designer Derek Lam's clothing line, it's his handbags that truly leave me awestruck. He is quickly becoming a master of youthful yet elegant designs, but does he have what it takes to appeal to both younger and older women? In other words, can Derek Lam bridge the "generation gap"?

Designing modern, classic and slightly edgy handbags is no easy task. Somehow, Lam seems to do this effortlessly. The Violet Satchel is a perfect example of what a contemporary silhouette combined with traditional materials should look like. Pebbled leather accentuated with aged brass hardware and a flat leather shoulder strap with link chains give this satchel her classic structure. Two zippers along the sides and bottom allowing her to expand to a roomier shape give her a modern twist. A magnetic flap closure, spacious inner compartments divided by a zipped pocket, cell phone pocket, pouch pocket in the front inner compartment, and a large frame pocket with a kiss-lock closure in the rear compartment give the 'Violet' comfort and functionality. The luxurious suede lining adds a hint of vintage elegance, but the engraved metal ring adorning the front of the bag pushes this design ahead of all other contenders. Anyone who uses ram heads as a design element is aces in my book.

With the 'Violet' Satchel, Derek Lam proves he has the design skills necessary in order to appeal to women of all ages. You can get the 'Violet' for $1,950 at eLUXURY. She's worth every penny.
