Celebrity Style: Prada Napa Gaufre Drawstring Bag

Prada is a hit or miss designer with quite a few of my close friends. While out shopping a few months ago, I was surprised by the mixed feelings concerning some of the Italian label's more successful creations. The Napa Gaufre Drawstring Bag was a particular conversation piece. One friend complained that it was "awfully heavy" while another lady noted that drawstring bags are "so very 80s" (I'll admit I've felt the same way as that last observation). So I left the store with a rather dismissive attitude toward Prada bags.

Skip ahead to this weekend when I stumbled across a photo of my favorite Aussie, Naomi Watts, sporting a fabulous baby belly and carrying the heavy, outdated Prada no-no. Only, it wasn't all those things I thought before. I realized this handbag is quite fetching. The pleated napa leather with its' ultra soft texture is well-suited for the drawstring style. Add subtle gold-tone hardware, dual top handles, and lined interior to this perfectly sized 16 x 14.5 x 7 bag and you have the makings of a stylish bag that isn't that heavy (as Naomi demonstrates) or that dated (as Naomi also demonstrates).

While the Napa Gaufre Drawstring Bag is a steep purchase at $2850 via Neiman Marcus, I understand why many ladies find it appealing. Now to work on converting my friends...
