Elie Tahari Chiara Frame Bag

Frame top handbags are my absolute favorite. There is simply no other style that evokes more respect among handbag collectors than the timeless elegance of a frame top bag. Nowadays, designers are ransacking handbag design's glorious past in search of details that will lend their creations a sophisticated air without making them look "dated". One bag on the scene that walks the fine line between "retro-chic" and "granny bag" is the Chiara Frame Bag by Elie Tahari.

At first I was tempted to dismiss this bag, but several details kept me coming back for additional looks. The smooth leather, available in brown and black (shown), works well with the overall structured design. The frame top and kiss-lock closure are quaint throwbacks to the 50s while the tortoise shell detailing on the 'Chiara's' front back has a cool 60s vibe. Modern touches come in the form of practical storage for women on the go. The lined interior features a zipped center divider which is a welcome space inside this deceivingly large 17.5 x 8 x 5.5 satchel. The 'Chiara' makes a great day bag ideal for working women or moms who lug around too much and crave a functional yet stylish bag to spruce up their day-to-day casual looks. Since the Elie Tahari Chiara Frame Bag is priced at $895 via Neiman Marcus, indulging in a handbag with a few classic details won't make you feel like a little old lady.
