Whew! The Spring 2008 collections are behind us (or is that ahead of us since spring is still 6 months away). I'm fairly exhausted from the avalanche of shows this season. However, more designers and more collections translates to a wider range of design options for fashionistas to choose from. After picking out the trends from New York Fashion Week, it's time to see what we can expect from our designers across the pond. I wasn't surprised to see many of the trends from NYFW continue over into the Milan and Paris shows.
Exotic handbags are still going strong with no sign of fading into the shadows. Crocodile, snake-skin and ostrich were seen everywhere from Gucci to Burberry to Louis Vuitton.
Color, color and more color was the order of the day at Milan and Paris. Spring will bloom with practically every color represented (sometimes all on the same bag!). The Valentino and Prada shows were alive with color so expect to see plenty of selections to appeal to a wide range of tastes come spring.
During NYFW, we saw a plethora of clutches from small evening bags to the latest craze -oversize clutches. Milan and Paris have followed suit with clutches coming to you from almost every designer. The oversize clutch is still making waves in the fashion world. Even Fendi has jumped on the bandwagon and created several large versions of its' insanely popular Baguette.
Expect plenty of structured bags clad in everything from leather to fabrics to exotic skins. The square tote is poised to be the next "must-have" style for the spring. Fashionistas will have plenty to choose from - Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Alexander McQueen and Barbara Bui all have stunning designs competing for our attention.
Perhaps the most "inspired" handbag trend to emerge from Milan and Paris is the artistic bag. Prada and Stella McCartney tapped into the world of art to deliver interesting bags. While these "artsy" bags might not be everyone's cup of tea, they are beautiful to look at nonetheless.
So there you have it, ladies. While you're enjoying your lush fall handbags, be sure to daydream about the colorful and luxurious arm candy waiting in the wings for all to enjoy.
