Stella McCartney for LeSportsac Deer Rucksack

I would normally not give this bag a second glance, but, since it's the handbag equivalent of a train wreck, I find myself morbidly fixated on it. In case you haven't heard, Stella McCartney lent her fashion design expertise to an Eco-friendly line of handbags and travel gear for LeSportsac. OK, fine, I'm all for helping the environment and being fashionable while doing it, but what the heck is this supposed to accomplish. Aside from using recycled polyester and sporting Ms. McCartney's name on it, this LeSportsac Deer Rucksack is about as stylish as a wart on the tip of your nose.

Let's dispense with the obvious first - it's a backpack in the shape of a deer head. Why? Are we to be reminded that our shortsighted ways harm the environment including, perhaps, deer? Is it necessary to carry around that reminder like a monkey, or deer, on your back? I hate to feel as if I'm being lectured, and this hag bag manages to do that in a most annoying way. Second, it's about an inch deep. What can I possibly stick in there? It's not like this is a messenger bag which many of us like flat and relatively small in size. It's a backpack and should be practical. The most I could fit inside this thing is a slim wallet, keys and a sheet of paper. Oops! Hope that sheet of paper is recycled or the deer might bite you in protest. Oh, I almost forgot. The color is called bark. Get it? How cute :-),

What really boggles my mind is the fact that most of her other designs for the LeSportsac collaboration are actually quite nice and not exorbitantly priced. The 'Deer' rucksack is $85, and that's about $84.99 too much for me. In fact, I wouldn't even take it if it were free. There are better ways to use recycled materials than wasting them on Bambi here. Not much left to say about this one, ladies, except to say "YUCK!!!"

Oh my God. I have to laugh so hard! I love LS, the classic line with all its colour and functionality. But this? Unbelievable what 'designers' get away with!!! I guess all they need is their credit card on them, which may fit into the deer just fine! :-()
