Yves Saint Laurent Totem Bag

Last week I brought you the YSL Capri Bags and promised an even more stunning bag for this week. I think you'll agree with me that the Yves Saint Laurent Totem Bag is a striking design and worthy of our attention. There are many aspects of the 'Totem' I simply adore, but the intriguing shape is what really caught my eye. Although the curvy, structured silhouette is quite modern in design, the bag has a very traditional feel to it. Perhaps it's this very contradiction in style that provides the 'Totem' with such an ease for variation. YSL has quite astutely kept the exterior clean and simple in order to showcase the shape in a myriad of colors and finishes.

For fall, YSL created the Totem Bag in classic leather as well as ostrich and crocodile. As you can well imagine, the exotic finishes are very expensive. The leather version which is available in black is priced at a relatively reasonable $1595. The ostrich 'Totem' which is done in a stunning purple hue called African violet climbs to a rather steep $5495 (it's ostrich, though, so that's to be expected. The most expensive of all the Totem Bags, the crocodile version done in both black (pre-order) and dark turquoise, comes in at a whopping $17,950. Although some of the 'Totem' versions are priced far outside most women's budgets, this is the kind of bag that will become a staple for years to come and attract a core audience of collectors that look forward to seeing the seasonal renderings of their favorite bag. So, ladies, add yet another YSL bag to your list of must-have bags.
