Jimmy Choo Odette

When I previewed some of our favorite and not so favorite fall '09 designs a couple of months ago, the Jimmy Choo Odette landed on our list of no-nos. Not that the bag's overall design and silhouette were to blame. On the contrary, we loved the "Y"-shaped detailing and ring hardware accents that provided the 'Odette' with an urban vibe we'd come to expect from Jimmy Choo bags. It's comparable in size and shape to the Jimmy Choo Blythe Satchel which makes it a comfortable day-bag option. Our gripe with the bag was in the materials or, rather, the combination of patterns and materials used on the preview piece. Zebra-print calf hair and electric blue, snake-embossed leather trim on the same bag? Ugghhh!!! Just pick one or the other, for goodness sake. Now that we've had the opportunity to see this black pebbled leather version of the 'Odette', we have nothing but admiration for the design. I can't wait to see it done in other colors and exotic skins, just not all on the same bag. I hope Jimmy Choo doesn't ruin a good thing even before it has the chance to make a "splash" on the fashion scene.

Thanks for the write-up Dania. Agree with you on the zebra-print (blah). BTW, what are your thoughts on the buzz around Alexander Wang's Coco duffle??? TGIF - gail

Alexander Wang's fall handbag collection is very promising. The Coco Duffle and Jess Shopper are my personal favorites, but the Coco appears to be worthy of the buzz surrounding it. It'll definitely sell like hotcakes. I will say this, however - Alexander Wang bags are not, IMO, for the older set. A bag like the Jess shopper will appeal to a broader range of age groups, but the heavy stud-detailing on the Coco will be difficult for an older woman to pull off without coming off as a fashion victim. Just a thought until I can get a better look at it.
