Alexander Wang's Resort 2010 collection is cool, but, definitely, not dark. The clothes are in keeping with an "edgy Gap" vibe that's interesting, but not necessarily appealing to the base Wang's been designing for up until now. Would a downtown chick mind looking like she just stepped out of The Gap? Maybe not, but I think this collection will be a tough sell for Alexander Wang fans even if it is resort wear. But we're interested in the bags, right? I know I am. After Wang's incredibly successful, as-yet-to-be-fully-launched fall 2009 collection, I and much of the handbag loving world are eager to see what he's thought up next.
As you can see from these pics of his resort 2010 presentation, we have the same bags from the fall dressed down in cool tones. The Coco Duffle, Dorothy Shopper and Max Fanny Pack are all back, but with little to no improvement. I don't mind when a designer takes successful designs and brings them back season after season. That's just part of the game. When they look the same or worse than before, then we and the designer should be worried. Since this is a minor collection, I'll reserve my judgement until we see his spring 2010 collection in September. Hopefully, we'll see some new stuff worthy of inducing excitement. For now, I'll just take a snooze and dream of Gap-clad male models;-)
