Michele Inez Leather Hobo: An Inexpensive Alternative to the Hermés Massai

If I close my left eye, squint my right one and whistle Dancing Queen by Abba, I can almost picture the Michele Inez Leather Hobo looking quite like my "holy grail" of designer handbags, the Hermés Massai. For the past couple of years I've been longing for a 'Massai' and seeing Jennifer Aniston's Massai collection, including the gorgeous grey version she carried last year (pictured), only fanned the flames of my desire for this ultra sophisticated bag. Alas, I don't have $4000 to spend, so I suppose this hobo could do as an inexpensive substitite.

The 'Inez's' silhouette is similar, and its size is almost the same as that of the smaller PM Massai. The major differences between the two designs are, of course, the leather (duh!), the braided top handle and stud hardware, not to mention the zippered trim along the outside seam. I guess this is what the Massai would look like if Gaultier ever reinterpreted the design to reflect the current 'glam rock' trend. OMG, perish the thought. I was totally kidding, Jean-Paul. Don't you ever, and I mean ever, touch my lovely Massai. It's perfectly chic and sublime as it is.

I'm certainly not suggesting that this hobo is in any way a true substitute for the Massai. I just wanted to point out that for those of you that like the Hermés Massai but can't afford its hefty price tag, the Michele Inez Leather Hobo is a reasonably priced alternative and definitely more jazzed up than the Hermés version. However, you could just do what I'm doing and save for the one and only original. Good things come to those who wait, right?

By the way, Michele is a company known for its watches and other accessories and is based out of my hometown, Miami. It definitely is a small world.

Recently in Nordstrom I actually saw this bag in the bronze metallic and I have to say I was very impressed with the style and quality. It was really, really pretty and I thought very versatile in the metallic. I absolutely LOVE the Michele watches that I own. If the quality of the Michele bags stands up to that of their watches, I would say they should have great success in this endeavor. BTW, Michele's customer service standards are exemplary.

It's good to here opinions from customers in order to get a true sense of what a brand is actually capable of. They produce beautiful watches, and, apparently, bags as well. I saw the metallic bronze version on their website and absolutely loved it. If they had a grey version I'd probably buy it on the spot. The bronze version is also available at Nordstrom's website in case anyone is interested.
