Alexander Wang Transparent Rocco Baby Duffle

Are you familiar with the phrase "jump the shark"? It refers to the point when something becomes absurd. If you happen to be a fan of the TV show Happy Days, you may remember the episode where "The Fonz" literally jumps over a shark while water skiing. The once hip and cool Fonzie became a joke when he performed such a ludicrous and impossible feat. Ever since that fateful television moment, people have used the phrase to refer to something that goes too far.

Now I'll ask you to look at the Alexander Wang Transparent Rocco Baby Duffle as an example of how a fashion designer can "jump the shark" as well. With only a few seasons under his belt and a hit handbag to catapult him into the fashion world stratosphere, Wang decided to take his most popular design and make a joke out of it. Transparent PVC? Seriously? I mean, seriously? C'mon. Who would buy a bag everyone can see inside of. Only women who work at beauty counters in Nordstrom or Macy's, but not anyone with an ounce of common sense. If transparent bags appeal to you (?), my advise would be to save your money and simply walk around with a giant post-it note detailing the contents of your bag on your back. I'm sure thieves will appreciate the gesture.

On a more serious note, it's time to talk price. has the Transparent Rocco Baby Duffle priced at $1190. I'm not certain if this price simply reflects the fact that this on-line store is based overseas or if, in fact, the bag actually costs this much. Even if it were priced at $850 as all the other 'Coco' and 'Rocco' bags are, that's still way too much for a bag made of 70% PVC. Don't fall for this see-through design, ladies. Just because Wang jumped the shark doesn't mean we need to jump along with him. Save you money and get something a tad more opaque ;-)

This bag is absolutely ridiculous! The black version was attractive, but every Coco/Rocco duffle since has been a hot mess. I'm sure the price has something to do with the fact that LVR is based overseas. I've noticed the same with Marc Jacobs bags sold at Matches or Browns. Even if it were free, I would have to pass.

I noticed the price hikes at the overseas stores, but sometimes they have bags we can't get our hands on here. This bag, however, is not worth any price. As you put it so eloquently, even for free this bag is a definite "pass".
