Céline Spring/Summer 2010 Handbag Preview: Phoebe Philo Must Have Been On Vacation

Phoebe Philo, Chloé's former creative director and designer extraordinaire, was apparently on vacation when her highly anticipated Spring/Summer 2010 collection for Céline was in the works. Let me be more specific, folks. She must have been out to lunch when the handbags were designed because a major portion of this handbag collection is rather dull. My expectations for this collection were high. The clothing was beyond superb, but the handbags fell well short of even my lowest standards.

While none of the designs are overtly offensive (yes, bags can be offensive to my senses!), I can definitely say I've seen them before with more successful executions. When I look over the collection as a whole, I'm reminded of Prada. If I wanted Prada, I'd buy Prada, right?

I can only hope Phoebe is locked up inside her design studio leaving only for bathroom breaks while she works on Céline's fall 2010 collection. Anything short of that might result in another disappointing and boring handbag line.
