The Heart Is A Fickle Hunter: Angel Jackson Gold Snakeskin & Sequin Bag

As one who ponders and fashions pocketbooks for a living, I have a jaded and slightly fickle heart when it comes to bags. But something about this bag stole my heart. Have you gone mad? I'm sure that's what you're thinking. And I can see how this bag might be labeled flat out tacky. It certainly would be hipper in black, and it definitely comes in black. The silver version is more elegant than the gold...

Why this bag? From a distance it looks hammered and burnished--almost from another era. As you come closer it's strikingly right now, with every trendy detail: the sequins, the snakeskin, the studs, the gold. While the materials might be construed as slightly gaudy, the almost delicate way they are used is not. And then there's the bizarre contrast of the 70s hippy bag shape and twist lock. Something about this juxtaposition caught my eye and works for me.

Here are the gory deets: the Angel Jackson satchel style bag sells for $382 at the London website farfetch.com. Made of black leather and snakeskin with gold sequins on the front, back and a small front concealed pocket. The bag has gold fittings, a chain and leather detachable shoulder strap and a small twist-lock front fastening surrounded by cream contrasting snakeskin. It has silver stud details on the front and back of the bag.

I don't expect you to agree with me, but would love to know what you think either way!

Mary Jo, I always love and appreciate that we all have different tastes and styles and this bag would definitely make a statement. But, what I see when I look at this bag is a knockoff of the classic and chic signature styles of Chanel and Lanvin and the gaudiness of Versace and D&G - sorry :(

I do think that there is something to be said for attempting to marry a classic silhouette with modern detailing, but I don't think this design was successful at achieving that precarious union. Perhaps the same bag with just the studs and a pure chain strap would look less like a Chanel attempt. The contrasting sequined panel is doing absolutely nothing for me. An all black backgroung would work better.

I love how you stand behind what you like, Mary Jo.

I love a statement bag, but this is hideous!
