These are a Few of My Favorite Things...

meet the natives u.s.a. and say yes to the dress reality television shows

As a reality TV junkie, I always find myself searching for that next great show about "real life". My current favorites are miles apart in terms of relevance and theme - Meet the Natives U.S.A. and Say Yes to the Dress! For those of you unfamiliar with either show, the former showcases five tribesmen from the island of Tanna who make their way across the U.S. visiting several host families and getting a taste of all things American. We ignorantly believe they'll find coming here an eye-opening learning experience, but it quickly becomes apparent that it is the host families and, in turn, the viewers who learn quite a bit about life from these amiable and wise men. If you haven't caught this show on cable, I suggest you hunt it down and watch it. It's one reality TV show well worth your time.

The latter program, Say Yes to the Dress, is a totally frivolous show that gives us a peek into the world of weddings, wedding dresses and the iconic NYC dress shop, Kleinfeld. Why do I love this program? Because I love anything that has to do with weddings. I've helped plan several throughout the years, and I enjoy the ins and outs of the industry. What I find to be the most riveting part of the show is the hard time that many women go through to find their dream wedding dress. I was fortunate enough to fall for the first dress at the one and only store I went dress shopping at. I asked the consultant to show me long sleeve, plain dresses for a formal evening wedding at a Catholic church. She said, "No way, dear. A long sleeve dress would do absolutely nothing for you. Try this on instead." I was in and out of the store (that includes trying on the dress, modeling it for my grandmother, putting down a deposit and drinking a nice cold soda while I waited to be measured) in less than an hour. Take that Kleinfeld!!! On a side note, wedding dress shopping in Miami is FABULOUS. I highly recommend coming here if you're looking for a wedding dress. I ended up with a one-of-a-kind design from Spain for $2000. A total bargain if you ask me.

So what do reality TV shows and designer handbags have in common? Nothing, of course. This is merely the first of several posts I plan to share with all of you over the next few weeks entitled "These are a Few of My Favorite Things...". By sharing with everyone what some of my favorite things are, my goal is for our readers to get to know who "Señora Cartera" really is. It goes without saying that my favorite "thing" is designer handbags, but there are plenty of other things that appeal to this handbag enthusiast. Hope you get a kick out of this series. I promise to have a few surprises along the way, and, perhaps, even share an embarrassing photo or two with everyone. If you care to comment, I'd love to hear your thoughts or even find out some of your favorite things as well.
