Alexander Wang Dorothy Shopper

There aren't many designer bags out there that can double as an infant carrier, but the Alexander Wang Dorothy Shopper is definitely one of them. Just look at the bag on the model. Holy cow! I could stow my 11-month old son inside the 'Dorothy' while I'm out shopping and use it like a baby sling of sorts.

OK, all kidding aside, the 'Dorothy', which measures 18 x 20 x 6 with a 7.5" handle drop, is a very simple design that still manages to look quite boho-chic if you can get past its enormous proportions. It's made from grey suede with cut-out top handles and fold-in sides. As a shopper, it's great. Use it to store a smaller shoulder bag and other items and make it a carry-all if that better suits your needs or place a small person inside it while you shop and re-define the term "shopping bag" (I'm kidding about sticking someone inside this thing, of course).

Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale

Chloé Paraty Bag - Reduced from $1795 to $1069.90 (40% off)
Jimmy Choo Ruby Hobo - Reduced from $1895 to $1129.90 (40% off)

Some sales are better than others. Why? Because some sales actually knock down the price on bags people actually like. You know what I mean;-) The Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale is one of the good ones. Just look at two of the bags included in their sale inventory. Be sure and check out the entire sale. Take advantage of these prices if you're looking for a specific bag, ladies. Anything over 40% off is nothing to sneeze at. Good luck.

Celebrity Style: Rachel McAdams and the Bally Lu Shoulder Bag

I suppose I should mention The Notebook is one of my all-time favorite movies. It's as romantic as one can imagine and a true testament to how love can endure all. Even my husband, who tends to eschew "chick flicks", was moved by the film's message. I loved Rachel McAdam in the film - her character is strong, sassy but always struggling between her head and her heart (don't we all go through that?!?). I 've followed her career up until now, and she's one of the few young actresses around that really has her head firmly placed on her shoulders. Her style has evolved over the years as well. She seems to be more comfortable now with her fashion choices or simply doesn't care what is written about her. Good for her. I only have great things to say about her easy, clean and casual style. Her eclectic choice in handbags has also matured over the past couple of years as is evident with her current choice of arm candy, the Bally Lu Shoulder Bag.

Rachel has really kicked things up a notch or two by opting for the over-sized Bally Lu Shoulder Bag. Her ultra-chic version, done in an on-trend grey suede, features wide pleated detailing throughout the exterior as well as a single rolled top handle attached to the bag by gold-tone metal rings. The zippered top sports dual, logo-plated zipper pulls and opens up to reveal a very roomy, fully-lined interior with pockets for additional storage. You can purchase the chocolate brown leather version pictured above on-line, visit Bally.com to locate a store near you and try to score Rachel's trendy version, or check out ebay to snag Rachel's bag for about $200 less than retail. The color really doesn't matter because the 'Lu' is fabulous no matter what color you make it.

YSL Lover Bag

I hate ragging on a YSL bag mainly because YSL is my favorite designer handbag label, but the Lover Bag from their fall collection is a step in the wrong direction. The first thing I'd get rid of is the tiny (perhaps minuscule is a better term) padlock on the front of the bag. Totally useless, even as a decorative accent. Next, I'd remove the long buckle straps extending from the top handle rings down past the dual front pockets. I don't mind the pockets as they're great for additional storage, but the long buckle straps have to go. I might be persuaded to leave a small buckle-detailed closure for each pocket as a compromise, but the long straps are distracting and misplaced. The design features YSL's use of its signature large "Y" created by stitching as well as the placement of the front pockets in this case. The straps completely detract from this design element, and, in addition, give the Lover Bag a utilitarian look unworthy of its name. When I think of "lover" I think of softness, not in-your-face buckle straps. I guess I'm in a nit-picking mood. I even discussed my disappointment in the Lover Bag with my hubby over the weekend, and he concurred with my complaints. It's not an ugly bag, per say, it's just not what I've come to expect from YSL, hence my bad mood. You can purchase the black version now or pre-order the natural one if you don't mind the toy padlock and big ole buckle straps .

Celebrity Style: Eva Mendes and the Coach Bonnie Convertible Bag

Eva Mendes Photo via Celebutopia

Let me be honest, the thing I like least about Eva Mendes' look is her bag. I love everything else because it's how I usually dress - simple tee, wide leg jeans, and a cute page-boy cap to hide my cropped haircut. I tend to favor comfortable totes or hobos for everyday use so I can't fault Eva for selecting the Coach Bonnie Convertible Bag to top off her casual look. As I wrote before, the bag is my least favorite component of this ensemble. Perhaps it's the contrasting chalk white/navy trim leather exterior (the all camel version would have suited her best), or the expandable zippered sides and bottom (not my favorite design choice) that turn me off to this bag. In any case, I'm just not loving the 'Bonnie'.

I prefer the Foley + Corinna Mid City Tote to the Coach Bonnie Convertible Bag. Foley + Corinna have perfected the convertible bag, and pretty much have the market cornered when it comes to sleek, modern utilitarian bags. It's a good overall attempt by Coach, and I'm sure Coach lovers will be pleased with the results. I guess to each his/her own. Since Eva is such a big Coach fan, I can understand her loyalty to the brand. My advice to her would be to branch out and bring a more urban edge to her handbag collection with a Foley + Corinna bag. If she doesn't end up liking it more than the Coach version, I'd be more than happy to take it off her hands.

Fendi Maxi Bag

If you're in the market for a sleek, elegant shoulder bag, the Fendi Maxi Bag is a great option to look at. The 'Maxi's' structured shape, contrasting grey/black leather design and chain/leather shoulder strap combine to create a striking and sophisticated bag. You can wear it long or adjust the strap to create dual top handles and carry it satchel-style. Measuring 14 x 9.5 x 2.5, the 'Maxi' is quite roomy for this sort of bag. It features a fold-over flap top with buckle closure and fabric-lined interior including a zippered pocket. It's priced at $1530 which is a few hundred dollars over what I'd expect to pay for a bag like this, but it's a Fendi design so you're really paying extra for the name attached to it. Anyhow, the bag itself is gorgeous and worth the price tag if it'll fulfill your needs.

Chloé Astoria Dome Bag

I've been sitting on this bag for a couple of days not knowing exactly what I thought about it. When I'm on the fence about a bag, I do what I always do to solve my uncertainty - I style it. I imagine how the bag would fit in with my wardrobe and that usually takes care of the problem. I happen to like the Chloé Astoria Dome Bag. The silhouette is sophisticated and timeless and the pollen yellow buffalo leather sublimely contrasted by pale pink (or just plain old nude - it's hard to tell) top handles accented with decorative cabochon gemstones is stunning to behold. The 'Astoria' measures 12 x 13 x 8 which is fairly roomy making it an adequate enough satchel. So why my vacillation? Well, it's a bit difficult to pinpoint except to say that I must be able to envision how a bag will "work" with my clothes. The 'Astoria' seemed too refined for my very uncouture-like wardrobe, but once I put it through my litmus test it came through with flying colors. While I won't be adding the Chloé Astoria Dome Bag to my closet anytime soon, I know it would feel right at home there if I ever changed my mind.

Jimmy Choo Bea Shoulder Bag

Look what's coming soon from Jimmy Choo. The Bea Shoulder Bag, crafted from metallic leather, demonstrates how simple is more often than not better. The lovely sheen of the bag's exterior is complimented by brushed gold hardware and two adjustable top handles. Measuring 14 x 14 x 8, the 'Bea' is large but not overwhelming. The simplicity of its design is spruced up by the snakeskin-patterned interior lining and side snaps allowing for expanding or detracting its size. Zippered and open flat pockets round out the bag's interior storage options. The 'Bea' will be available in black and champagne (pictured). I'm picking the champagne version because its both edgy and refined all at once. Keep an eye out for the Bea Shoulder Bag when it becomes available for pre-order via JimmyChoo.com.

Salvatore Ferragamo Angello Satchel

Pre-fall handbags are slowly making their way onto your favorite on-line retail sites. One bag that's caught my attention early on is the Salvatore Ferragamo Angello Satchel. So far I love everything about it. The structured top handles, pebbled leather exterior, and gathered front detailing come together to create a very "ladylike" design. That doesn't mean the Angello satchel is for the older set. On the contrary, the large metal signature Gancini piece used to hold together the gathered leather front facade gives the 'Angello' a bit of a "bondage" feel that's subtle, unexpected but never over the top.

I think the color one chooses can determine how this bag will ultimately be perceived. Currently, there are three colors available for pre-order - chocolate, nero black and lavender. The darker tones can make the bag work better in more urban settings while the lavender version inspires a more elegant, serene look. Lavender is the color to own for the fall with grey a close second. While I'd normally recommend incorporating this must-have color on a smaller scale (perhaps an accessory or wallet), the demure hue looks amazing on the pebbled leather of the 'Angello'. If you're a lavender lover, this would be the handbag to get. I'm tentatively recommending this bag only because I don't have measurements for it yet. However, to be honest, I don't need them for me. I'd love this bag if it was small or the size of a truck. Salvatore Ferragamo has created some fabulous designs for the fall, ladies, and the Angello Satchel is just the beginning.

Classy At The 2009 Cannes Film Festival: Red Carpet Favorites

My best friend and I are total red carpet junkies. The Cannes Film Festival always affords us addicts a chance to live vicariously through celebrities. The gorgeous Mediterranean enclave coupled with stunning couture gowns produces photo op after enviable photo op of designer-clad stars. I know I'll never wear a Valentino or Dior couture gown in my lifetime, so I settle for these digital images to carry me through my ordinary existence. OK, I'm over-dramatizing a bit. Just like the designer handbags we all love, red carpet fashions are to be admired, envied and desired. I'm forgoing any discussion on handbags with this post and offering readers a chance to see runway looks come to life on the red carpet with striking success. Here are a few of my favorite looks from this year's Cannes Film Festival. Enjoy!

YSL Lizard-Embossed Downtown Tote

How can designer labels improve one of their signature styles without "jumping the shark", so to speak? Just ask handbag darling YSL which manages to do this with stylish simplicity. The 'Downtown' tote became an instant hit for YSL and rightly so. This modern design fit for the discerning urban dweller possessed all the requirements you'd expect from a chic designer tote - large size, practical design with plenty of storage options and unique design twists propelling it to "it" bag status. The 'Downtown' has seen many incarnations from basic to patent leather to croc-embossed. We've seen many sizes as well from enormous to medium sized to dainty little handbag. Once you've seen as much of a bag as we've seen of the 'Downtown', it's easy to become jaded. Yet, YSL has managed to make the 'Downtown' a "must-have" once again with this sophisticated smog grey, lizard-embossed suede version. Grey and suede are big trends for the fall (not to mention lavender but I'll get to that trend a little later). The bottom line is that the YSL Lizard-Embossed Downtown Tote is a fabulous example of how to re-do a handbag style the right way.

Memorial Day Weekend Splurge: Anna Vince Deco Metallic Clutch

Memorial Day weekend is a busy time in my hometown of Miami. When I was in my twenties, this weekend meant shopping, movies, the beach, and, well, more shopping. I usually made my "big" (i.e. expensive) handbag purchases during this weekend hoping to cash in on a sale. As time wore on, shopping took a back seat to spending time with family and friends. Most of my shopping takes place on a virtual level now. My trips to the beach have become more infrequent as the tourists have taken over my once tranquil, sacred spots (no offense to tourists that provide a much-needed injection of cash into our local economy). So what's a gal like me to do this fine weekend? Barbecue? Nope. It's forecast to rain all weekend long. The movies? With two toddlers, no way. Shopping? Once again, rain plus two toddlers will make a trip to the stores a fate worse than death. My only alternative is to scour the web in search of new and exciting designer handbag because that's what I do!

I got a jump on my Memorial Day weekend on-line shopping by nabbing a pair of snazzy shoes for my youngest son as well as an eco-friendly backpack for my older boy's first time at school. To be honest, I mostly shop for my kids as even my hubby will gladly attest to. If I were, however, to splurge on a bag this weekend, I'd pick the gorgeous Anna Vince Deco Metallic Clutch. This oversized 14 x 10 bag makes a statement that is guaranteed to make you seen and heard everywhere you take it. The framed top, pleated metallic gold exterior, and origami-like folded leather accents combine to create this eye-catching, deco-inspired clutch. We here in Miami are all about Art Deco style mostly because it's been shoved down our throats for years. This ultra chic clutch would make any woman heading for a night out in South Beach look like a million bucks. Unfortunately for me, I'd have to use this beauty somewhere else because the traffic and parking at SoBe are horrendous and not worth the aggravation. I'll let the tourists keep SoBe and my once lovely, quiet beaches as long as I can have my fabulous Deco Metallic Clutch.

Celebrity Style: Alyson Hannigan and the Marni Double Balloon Bag

Alyson Hannigan photo via Celebutopia

I'm a major Buffy the vampire Slayer fan. I watched the show religiously for 7 years, and one of my favorite characters on the show was Buffy's BFF, Willow. I still miss tuning in to see the Scooby gang battle evil beasties, so I was thrilled to come across this photo of Willow's portrayer, Alyson Hannigan, strolling her newborn daughter with husband and former BtVS alum, Alexis Denisof. Having an 11-month old myself, I inspected every inch of the photo wanting to know which stroller she favors, what she's wearing, and, of course, what bag she's carrying.

It appears that Alyson is a practical yet stylish gal, particularly when it comes to handbags. She's toting the Marni Double Balloon Bag which makes a great day bag as well as one heck of a diaper bag! The Marni tote measures 16.5 x 17 x 6, is crafted from deep blue lambskin leather with cinnamon brown calfskin leather accents. The nylon-lined interior ensures you won't be damaging this tote with milk bottle leaks anytime soon. The roomy interior features a calfskin leather divider as well as a small pouch pocket. Front and rear drawstrings allow easy access to either interior compartment without disturbing the other. A sturdy top handle with silver-tone hardware is attached to the center divider and a detachable shoulder strap with hardware insets is also included. The Double Balloon Bag is priced at $1800 (that's one expensive diaper bag!), but she's obviously using it as a tote so I won't poke fun at her anymore. Willow was one feisty witch and I'd never incur the wrath of wicked Willow, not even over a handbag.

Michael Kors Skorpios Large Hobo

I'm all about coffee/chocolate/espresso bags lately. I'm particularly excited to see so many designers offering designs in this color for the fall. The Michael Kors Skorpios Large Hobo is a pretty solid choice for a fall/winter bag, but I'm not entirely sold on it. Neiman Marcus is not providing exact measurements on this one since it's up on the site just for pre-order, but I get the feeling from looking at this photo that the bag would benefit from a bit more height. It looks a bit "fat", and once you put it on your shoulder the weighted tab will only emphasize the fullness of the bag. A few more inches of height and maybe even a couple of more inches in depth would take care of that problem. I suppose I love the proportions of a north/south bag more than east/west ones. They tend to elongate the upper body and draw attention away from those pesky "trouble spots".

I love the weaved detailing on the top handle and tab closure, and the silver-tone hardware looks fab against the coffee brown smooth leather exterior. I don't feel those features will compensate for the predicament I mentioned before. I'm very picky about these sort of details, especially with my chubby arms. I don't want them resting atop a bulky bag when a few more inches of leather could have nipped the problem in the bud. If you like the Skorpios Large Hobo, you can pre-order it for $1395 via Neiman Marcus. Me and my chubby arms will pass on it.

Net-A-Porter End Of Season Sale

I love "end of season" sales mainly because they're the best time to save on bags that are still new. A secondary reason is more from a handbag blogger's point of view. This means we'll be seeing pre-fall collections available for pre-order very soon (it's already happening on several sites). What a great opportunity to get out of my funk and look forward to the exciting bags the fall will certainly have to offer. But I'm getting way ahead of myself. Let's concentrate on the here and now, and how we can best maximize our spending power. There are lots of gorgeous bags on sale right now at Net-A-Porter. Most bags are anywhere from 40-50% off. I've picked some of my favorites, including a few other non-handbag items, just to give everyone a taste of what's available. If you like something and can afford it, I wouldn't hesitate to scoop it up. These sales tend to sell out rather quickly. Good luck, ladies.

Celebrity Style: Gerard Darel Barcelona Flower Tote

Emmy Rossum and Katherine McPhee photos via Celebutopia

There's no surprise a love affair exists between celebrities and Gerard Darel handbags. From Angelina Jolie to Isla Fisher to Eva Longoria-Parker, celebs are flocking to the French designer for their arm candy fix. Darel's designs are so simple and chic they transcend the trends remaining a prime choice among fashionistas. The latest Gerard Darel style making the rounds in Hollywood is the Barcelona Flower Tote. Both actress Emmy Rossum and American Idol finalist Katherine McPhee favor the brown patent leather Barcelona Flower Tote. This roomy 13 x 19 x 9 tote makes a great all-day bag. It features an outside dual zippered pocket as well as side zippers to expand the tote. The design is accented with Darel's signature matte, nail-head brass hardware throughout.

I can definitely see why so many Hollywood stars are turning to Gerard Darel and am only left wondering why the French design genius doesn't open a boutique in the U.S.? We deserve to get our grubby hands on these chic bags too, right? Well, until that comes true (don't hold your breath), we can search on-line in the hopes of getting lucky. The Barcelona Flower Tote is available in black patent leather for $795 via ShopRumor. They have the bag labeled as a 'Sorrento' tote, but the 'Sorrento' line doesn't have a tote. I believe the site made a mistake when they typed up their description. Regardless, if you decide to order the bag, be certain to speak to someone in customer service to make absolutely sure that it is, in fact, a tote and not the Barcelona Hobo.

2009 Independent Handbag Designer Awards: Señora Cartera's Picks

One of my favorite resource sites, Handbag Designer 101, is hosting its 3rd Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards Wednesday, June 17th at The New York Historical Society in NYC. The event is a wonderful way to honor today's bright and extremely talented handbag designers. From design students to emerging designers to established independent labels, the IHDA has a category for everyone. I encourage all our readers to take a few minutes and express their love of handbags by voting for their favorite designs in all categories. I've taken the opportunity not only to vote but to pick my favorites and share them with you. Just imagine all the hard work these designers put into making such unique and diverse bags. The least we can do is show them how much we appreciate their efforts and the fabulous end results.

Alexander McQueen Wish Hobo

I feel so happy when I find a bag I absolutely love and would change nothing about it. That's exactly how I feel about this Alexander McQueen Wish Hobo. I think it's perfect from its clever "wishbone" handle to its eyelet-detailed exterior. The black patent leather is soft, shiny goodness that's begging me to make the Wish Hobo mine. It measures 21.7 x 19 x 3 with a 9" handle drop, has a magnetic closure and two interior pcokets. What can I say - it's perfect. Whoever says wishes don't come true hasn't seen this chic bag. I know my wish for finding the most fabulous handbag around just did. If you care to share in my happiness, the Alexander McQueen Wish Hobo will set you back $1795. It's well worth the price in my book, but I'm being totally biased. So, ladies, you'll have to make your own minds up on this one.

Celebrity Style: Jessica Alba and the Salvatore Ferragamo Nilla Tote

Jessica Alba photo via Celebutopia

It seems Jessica Alba has an affinity for large totes. In just the past few weeks, we've seen the star carrying totes by Tod's and Derek Lam. Now Jessica steps out toting the enormous Salvatore Ferragamo Nilla Tote.

The 'Nilla', which measures 16.5 x 13.5 x 4.5, features rolled leather top handles with whipstitch detailing attached to gold-tone Gancini logo rings, top side ruching, and a magnetic snap closure. Jessica's bag is crafted from blue ostrich making it a pricier option. A traditional leather version is available on-line in a neutral mud color for $1500. Of course, I love Jessica's colorful 'Nilla', but I wouldn't mind settling for the tried-and-true leather one as well.

Bodhi Crossbody Bag

Joseph Janus is a design genius. He understands that handbags are works of art and not mere additions to a woman's outfit. As creative and design director for Bodhi, Janus is responsible for channeling his unique vision into what must be one heck of a creative process. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Bodhi headquarters. Why? Because Bodhi handbags are some of the most avant-garde designs around. That's not to say the bags are so intellectually superior that they could only look good on the arm of a model sauntering down the runway. On the contrary, Bodhi bags are the epitome of sophistication with a decidedly modern twist.

The Crossbody Bag, part of Bodhi's "Pebble Group" line, is a simple bag that cannot help but captivate ones' attention. The silhouette is minimalistic allowing the giant turn-lock to take center stage. The fold-over flap design measures 8.75 x 8.5 x 4.5 and gently tapers off at the bottom. The 24" leather strap is accented by small metal ring insets, and, of course, the large gold-tone turn-lock closure is a bold, elegant and funtional design element. The Crossbody Bag comes in grass green, sun yellow and tangerine orange - perfect summer colors. Wear this chic bag with jeans and a tank, a white maxi dress or the quintessential LBD for an unexpected splash of color during a night out on the town. Browse Bodhi's entire collection here. The Crossbody Bag is available for reasonably moderate $448.

Louis Vuitton Astrid Wallet

If there is one thing I love about Louis Vuitton it's their Epi leather collection. I have several Epi items including wallets and organizers, so it really is no wonder I absolutely love the Astrid Wallet. The 'Astrid' comes in black, cassis purple and this crisp ivory version that's perfect for the summer. You can use it as a wallet or a small clutch. Measuring 7.5 x 4 x 1.5, the 'Astrid' is extremely well-appointed featuring a slew of pockets, credit card slots and key ring to keep all your things neatly organized. Goodness knows we all need a wallet like this one. Some of my friends have wallets that should be deemed disaster areas with papers shoved inside any which way, coins falling out and credit cards jumbled up in a messy pile. I hate unruly wallets. Ladies, get yourselves a really good wallet. It's as much of an important investment as a handbag can be. The 'Astrid' is steeply priced at $845, but, you know, it's Louis Vuitton so you have to roll with the punches on this one. I will say this on its behalf - Epi leather is as sturdy and resilient as elephant skin, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it as my go-to wallet. My Epi Medium Ring Agenda is over 3 years old, and it looks brand-spanking new. If you prefer something smaller, the Joey Wallet ($680) which measures 10 x 4 x 1.5 is a great alternative.

Foley + Corinna Drawstring Tote

I know I've expressed my dislike for drawstring bags in the past. There have been exceptions, but they've been few and very far between. These exceptions usually have the dreaded drawstring ties I detest so much on the side, not the front. This is the only way I'd even consider buying a drawstring bag. I have the gorgeous IGNES Sofia Bag in black with the drawstrings on the side, and they've never bothered me one bit.

I stumbled upon the Foley + Corinna Drawstring Tote and noticed it also has drawstring ties on the side. This small design choice makes the bag for me. First of all, side ties are more visually appealing and easier to access when carrying a bag over the shoulder. The fact that this particular design has nothing else going on style-wise except for the drawstrings only serves to enhance the bag's no-frills boho look. The extra-wide leather shoulder strap and leather shoulder pad make this one comfy bag. The tote comes in chestnut brown and beige (pictured) and measures a generous 18 x 11 x 5. Now I can add another drawstring bag to my very short list of stylish drawstring bags.

Celebrity Style: Eva Longoria-Parker and the Be&D Kan Kan Tote

Gorgeous woman + gorgeous designer bag = green with envy handbag blogger (that would be moi). I just hate when women look so effortlessly put-together. I'm kidding, really. No doubt Eva Longoria-Parker is a beautiful woman with one heck of a designer handbag collection. She was recently photographed carrying one of my absolutely all-time favorite designs, the Be&D Kan Kan Tote. The dichotomy exemplified in this stunning bag is exactly what makes it so incredibly chic. It's feminine yet edgy, large but not overpowering, modern yet timeless. These normally competing attributes meld together and produce a sublime design. The lovely, soft ruffling and short top handles provide the flirty side while the stud-accented center helps break up the frilly look and offers a bit of rocker chic to an otherwise lady-like design. The open top features a magnetic snap closure, and the interior provides plenty of space with a roomy main compartment and several smaller pockets for all your essentials. You can choose Eva's demure creme version or go all-out glam with the metallic champagne rendition (pictured). I love both, so you really can't go wrong with either choice.

Preen Roxy Bag

The Preen Roxy Bag is the "Transformer" of the handbag world. I watched the original Transformers cartoons every Saturday morning and was absolutely hooked on them. I think I liked the convertible robots because they were very practical beings. They could be cars, trucks, planes and robots all at the same time. If only all handbags could be that well-designed, right? Well there's at least one bag available that pushes the boundaries of fashion-forward design by transforming itself into several bags.

The 'Roxy' starts out as a tote of sorts. At this stage it looks a tad busy for my taste, but still very 'urban chic'. Then begins the transformation. The smaller front section detaches to become either a shoulder bag or clutch depending on whether you decide to use the wide, detachable shoulder strap. The clutch measures 11 x 8.5 with an 11.5" strap drop so the designers didn't make it a throw-away bag at all. The smaller bag's front flap expands to reveal a woven facade so it's even more versatile than it seems at first glance. If you decide to remove the shoulder strap an use it strictly as a clutch, there's a thick leather key strap attached to help carry it around as well. Whew! I'm dizzy from the endless design and functional possibilities attributed to this bag, and I haven't even gotten to the second, larger bag.

The large bag, once divested of it's smaller companion, becomes a stylish and equally versatile hobo. The front sports a woven leather design much like the clutch does, and the rear is crafted from all smooth leather. The single shoulder strap features two linked gold-tone metal ring accents as well as an adjustable buckle. A zippered top and lined interior with a smaller zipped pocket round out the rest of the bag's features. This larger bag measures 16 x 10 with a 13" strap drop. There are still a few little design elements or decorative accents I've left out. The clutch's detachable strap is completely top-stitched providing a nice touch that adds interest, and its' plain front has two small zippered pockets for additional storage.

The designers have outdone themselves with this wickedly clever black bag, I mean, bags. How they managed to keep it priced under $1000 is a mystery to me. The Preen Roxy Bag is only $595! I know, I'm still shocked at the price, but let's not question the reasoning behind this pricing decision and simply enjoy all the bags we get for the money.

MARC by Marc Jacobs Classic M Gathered Hobo

The stylish simplicity of a slouchy hobo can be a woman's best friend. When I happen to be in a sour mood (which is almost never ;-), I like to put on a relaxed, 'broken-in' hobo like a warm sweater to help bring me out of my funk. This MARC by Marc Jacobs Classic M Gathered Hobo possesses the qualities I look for in a comfortable go-to bag. The creamy beige leather must feel like butter (it certainly looks like it). It has silver-tone hardware which is a much better choice than the standard gold hardware you'd be likely to see on a color like this. Even the logo is chic and minimal, thank goodness. It measures 23 x 13.5 x 4 which makes it an ideal roomy day bag or even an overnight bag. I wouldn't put a laptop in it, but a magazine, bottled water or even my son's extra change of clothes would definitely find their way inside. The hobo has a flat leather shoulder strap with enough of a drop to wear over the shoulder. However, if you'd like it to sit a bit over the hip, a longer detachable strap is also included. I'd really love to add this yummy bag to my collection, but I've already bought three MARC bags since Christmas (not to mention other bags that have made their way into my closet!). I'm afraid this one will have to wait. I hope the 'Classic M Hobo' will still be available in a few months in this lovely chamois hue because it's already sold out on a few sites. You can still nab one now for $438 via Neiman Marcus.

Celebrity Style: AnnaLynne McCord and the Cole Haan Phoebe Triple Zip Satchel

Even celebrities, albeit lesser-known ones, desire affordable, stylish and functional handbags every now and then. AnnaLynne McCord, star of the revamped 90210 (nothing like the original though), appears to be that sort of practical woman because she's toting the very chic Cole Haan Phoebe Triple Zip Satchel. This amazingly functional bag, as you can see from the photo, has an enviable interior. There are three main zippered compartments, hence the "triple zip" moniker. The large, center compartment sports a tassel zipper pull and features three smaller leather-trimmed pockets ideal for cell-phones or PDA's and the remaining two zippered compartments flank the center one and run the entire length of the bag. Do I even need to mention how gorgeous the knotted top handles are? Nah, I know you know they're fabulous. My favorite elements of the design, however, are the beautiful piping and feminine pleating detailing. They elevate the design from ho-hum to sublime. The Triple Zip Phoebe comes in two sizes, the smaller 15.5 x 9.5 x 7.5 and a larger 18.5 x 11 x 10.5, as well as several colors including black, metallic soft gold, AnnaLynne's raspberry red and the perfect for summer ivory version pictured above.

Celebrity Style: Lindsay Lohan and the Gucci Irina Tote

Lindsay Lohan photo via Celebutopia

I really feel for Lindsay Lohan. Her life seems to be spirally out of control, and no one is there to steer her in the right direction. I hope she gets her life in order because she's a talented woman who deserves happiness and mental stability just like the rest of us. Just a few days ago, Lindsay was out shopping with younger sister Ali and was photographed toting a rather unique bag.

The design in question is the Gucci Irina Tote. Lindsay's version is crafted from black suede and features a myriad of decorative accents including studded top handles, turquoise suede trim and heart-shaped brass Gucci crest detailing on the front exterior. The 'Irina' has a bohemian feel that many celebrities are slowly embracing. I find myself attracted to the folksy designs I've seen from some designer labels like Jimmy Choo. Other designers like Marc Jacobs have taken the trend to extremes and ended up with some truly heinous-looking bags. I'm a bit on the fence about the 'Irina'. I happen to like the shoulder bag more than Lindsay's tote, and the sand-colored suede version with brass hardware more than the black rendition. Don't let the photo fool you into thinking the sand shoulder bag is dull looking. I've seen it in persion and it's very chic. I'm not saying I don't like Lindsay's bag. I think she carries it well, I'm just saying there are other versions that have a broader appeal.

Nancy Gonzalez Python Hobo

Picture this, if you will: A beautiful spring meadow filled with colorful wild flowers, butterflies fluttering in the air, rays of sunshine showering down all around and a choir of angels singing. Well, this sublime scene cannot compare to the moment when I first laid eyes on the stunning-beyond-words Nancy Gonzalez Python Hobo. I love handbags so I tend to experience these fantastic moments from time to time, but this one was particularly amazing. The unadulterated excitement I feel can hardly be contained, ladies, when I gaze upon this design. The entire bag is crafted from exotic white python and accented by a black crocodile shoulder strap with cut-out detailing. For goodness sake, is there anything more beautiful than this yummy confection in the entire handbag world? OK, I know I'm going just a tad overboard but my effulgence is absolutely merited. Just look at how the chic, generously-proportioned 24.5 x 16 x 8 hobo sits on the lucky mannequin in the photo (yes, I'm jealous of an inanimate object). The interior is just as gorgeous with a lovely pale lemon suede lining. Nancy Gonzalez has really outdone herself with this ultra sophisticated hobo. Her bags are always heavenly, but this Python Hobo is simply divine.

Roger Vivier Tejus Faceted Clutch

Let's continue the day with yet another fabulous clutch. When I gushed about the Roger Vivier Faceted Shoulder Bag last month, I knew I'd seen an incredibly fashion-forward design come to life. What I didn't know was how versatile the faceted look would actually become. The Roger Vivier Tejus Faceted Clutch is even more visually appealing than its' larger counterpart. The facets are smaller and really dominate the design. The look is carried out over the entire bag with stunning results. What could possibly enhance such a chic design? Exotic leather, of course. The facets are crafted from Tejus reptile skins, and the color variations are spectacular. I could stare at this bag forever just admiring the different yet oddly cohesive pieces. The various shades of aqua, green and yellow flow beautifully from one facet to another. The design is held together by soft yet sturdy black calfskin leather and features a faceted gold buckle clasp closure and metallic gold leather interior. It measures 10.6 x 4.7 x 1.5 - large enough to make for a roomy evening bag. The Tejus Faceted Clutch is priced under $1000 which is pretty outstanding for such an intricate, exotic-skinned design. I love it to no end. How about you?

Dania Reiter Crocodile Framed Clutch

A black clutch is a staple in any woman's wardrobe. A black crocodile clutch is, well, icing on the cake. To find such a thing at such a ridiculously low price as $616 is pretty much next to impossible. I've seen plenty of clutches with croc-embossed leather going for this much and more. The fact that the clutch I found is chic, timelessly elegant, black, fashioned from authentic crocodile and designed by Brazilian designer Dania Reiter is nothing short of miraculous.

If you're not familiar with Dania Reiter's designs, just click over to her website to experience a vacation for your senses. Her stunning designs rival those of any well-known design label. This classic black crocodile clutch measures 8 x 5 x 3 and features an acrylic framed top with pull clasp closure, brass hardware and suede-lined interior with croc-trimmed patch pocket. To be perfectly honest, I still can't believe I found this bag on-line for such a fabulous price. It's insane! Be warned, as I write this there's only one of these gorgeous bags left. If you want it, don't hesitate for a moment and get it. It's hands down one of the best handbag investments you'll ever make.

Be sure to visit the designer's site to find out more about her eco-friendly designs and the interesting process used to create them.
