Be & D Woodstock Leather Shoulder Bag

There is a scarcity of good shoulder bags out there. We've become so addicted to ginormous totes and comfy hobos that the classic shoulder bag has slowly fallen out of favor. So imagine my surprise when I came across a shoulder bag that's as spacious as a tote, as chic as a hobo and nothing like your mom's classic shoulder bag. This modern take on a woman's best accessory comes to us courtesy of hip label Be & D. The Woodstock Leather Shoulder Bag, a spin-off of their equally appealing Woodstock Shopping Bag, sports a black textured lambskin leather exterior, leather shoulder padded top handle with chain insets and Be & D's requisite cone-shaped studs on the belted fold-over flap. It has a spacious 14 x 12 x 6 suede-lined interior with several leather-trimmed storage pockets great for storing smaller items.

Let me point out a few things about the construction of this design to illustrate how a proper bag is made. Notice how the single top handle (with an impressive 13" drop) is given a sturdy leather shoulder pad and the chain insets are threaded through the pad and leather connectors as opposed to being attached to them. This makes carrying the bag more comfortable. It is unlikely the chains will break apart at the point of connection which is a major complaint of chain strap bags. The overall effect is that of a dual strapped bag with the convenience and comfort of a single one. Using a push-lock closure on the flap instead of a magnetic snap is a better option for keeping your essentials tucked safely inside your bag. Not to mention that a push-lock closure is more visually appealing than a hidden magnetic snap. In this case, it becomes a functional (and decorative) part of the design. Hear that Mr. Jacobs? Quit peddling bags with useless locks, please! Locks can actually be enticing and practical. Imagine that!

I give props to Steve Dumain for continuing Be & D's hip, urban aesthetic on the heels of Be Inthavong's departure. To those in the dark about the design duo's break up, nothing appears amiss. Glad to see the company continues to churn out such fun, well-constructed designs for under $1000. Thank you very much!

You have certainly sold me on Be&D bags. High quality construction coupled with reasonable prices are difficult to come by these days. The textured leather and comfy strap definitely make this the perfect everyday bag. Not to mention the fact that it just looks so damn cool.
