Marc Jacobs Fluo Passementary Lily Hobo

Can you guess what I'm going to write about the Marc Jacobs Fluo Passementary Lily Hobo? If you said "nothing nice", you'd be right. Only Jacobs could take a gorgeous green glazed leather hobo, and make it look like something the cat dragged in. Not only is he letting his loyal clientele down, he's letting himself down as well. I'm all for innovation and finding new ways to incorporate embellishments and decorative accents into handbag design, but the end results should be tasteful at least. Passementary embroidery on a lovely kaftan can be heavenly, but on a leather handbag, not so much. I don't like it on this bag or any other bag for that matter. I'm not averse to seeing it employed on a shoulder strap as Jacobs chose to do here, but never as a decorative applique.

Oh, I almost forgot to point out that in the midst of this embroidered mess, Jacobs had to throw in one of those useless padlocks he's so obviously enamored with. I just can't take looking at this bag and knowing what a chic design it could have been. If you're into this mess of a bag, it'll cost you $1495 via barneys.com, but I'm pretty much begging everyone not to buy into Jacobs' nonsensical bags. Hold out for bags we know he's capable of designing. Don't settle for ridiculous, mediocre and over-priced designs.
