Shouldering the 70s

Handbag lovers, in case you hadn't noticed, the iconic 70s shoulder bag is starting to show up everywhere! Not surprisingly it made a big appearance in the Yves Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2010 collection. After 5 years at YSL, this is Stefano Pilati's time; the fashion world is hanging on his every thought, word and action, and Mr. Pilati seems intent on bringing back the high-flying 70s style synonymous with YSL at its classic best. No matter what you might think of his ankle-grazing maxi skirt made of fur, the plain-bordering-on-ugly shoulder bag that all the hot chicks of the 70s used to rock is primed to become the "it" bag this fall. Get ready to shoulder the 70s!

Shoulder bags and messenger bags are huge this year. Those are two styles I happen to love. Let's hope designers get a bit more creative with them, though, like Be&D did with their Woodstock shoulder bag and Alexander McQueen did with his Faithful messenger bag.

Yes, I was just talking with my favorite chic/stylish friend about what's the hottest thing in bags and we both agreed the messenger is it. Wish the Proenza S. tag wasn't so killer though!
