Louis Vuitton Monogram Motard Afterdark Clutch

Louis Vuitton's artistic director Marc Jacobs collaborated with famed American artist Richard Prince and the understated yet edgy Monogram Motard Afterdark is just one of the many standouts. The classic LV monogram design is re-interpreted in a velvety suede/vernis combination. Choose between gold-tone metal eyelet handles ideal for carrying the 'Afterdark' as a trendy pouchette or the fold-over top which transforms it into a clutch. Either choice will make you the chicest fashionista on the block.

The Louis Vuitton Monogram Motard Afterdark Clutch is a stunning bag. No doubt about it. Yet the question begs asking if it's worth the hefty $1860 price tag. I say ABSOLUTELY! The classic black and powder beige color options will give its' owner years of enjoyment and the monogram design never goes out of fashion. If we can pay over $4 for a gallon of gas, then we can certainly rationalize paying almost $2000 for a clutch! Well can't we?

Handbag Color Of The Week: Louis Vuitton Epi Bowling Montaigne GM in Cassis

Sturdy leather, a structured shape and shiny palladium hardware make the Louis Vuitton Epi Bowling Montaigne GM a handbag collector must-have. However, it's the sumptuous Cassis color that really makes this designer handbag pop. Both the Bowling Montaigne and this new Cassis hue are stunning in their own right, but together they are pure handbag magic.

New Arrivals Alert: Louis Vuitton Monogram Vernis Violette Collection

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Louis Vuitton has introduced a new color to its' popular Monogram Vernis line. If you loved last year's radiant 'Pomme d'Amour', then this new, sexy color is right up your alley. The 'Violette' hue is deep, regal and very chic. I'm still trying to decide which LV accessory I'll be adding to my collection this Valentine's Day, but there's no doubt in my mind which color I'll select it in.

Visit your local Saks, Neiman Marcus or LV boutique to browse the entire Monogram Vernis collection in violette or shop on-line at eLUXURY's exclusive Louis Vuitton boutique.

What's Your "Handbag Style"?

Photos via The Daily Mail, POPSUGAR and ICYDK

Ever wonder what makes a woman covet and ultimately buy a certain bag? Well, like any other area of fashion, handbags fall into certain "style" categories. You know what I'm referring to, right? When you spot a woman walking down the street or shopping at a store, you make a mental judgment about what category she falls into. "She's a bohemian, she's a classic dresser, she's eclectic, she's a total bombshell" are just some of the categories used to describe a fashionista's style. So go ahead and add handbags to the equation. After reading and picturing the following examples, you'll get an idea of exactly what "handbag style" is really about. Which style best describes your preferences? Have fun figuring it out.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Griet

The Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Griet possess the timeless shape and classic details all handbag lovers can appreciate. Brass hardware, natural cowhide leather top handles and extended tab flap with push-lock closure are just a few of the 'Griet's' exceptional attributes. In addition, the roomy lined interior is divided by a zipped pocket and also has a convenient slip pocket and cell-phone pouch. Measuring 16.5 x 11 x 7.5, this Louis Vuitton satchel will serve as a sturdy and stylish "everyday" bag. I will say this about the 'Griet' - its' beautiful shape would be showcased better with another exterior. The monogram canvas is fine, but this same bag done in Epi leather with silver hardware would be simply divine. If you love the classic monogram canvas, be sure to add the 'Griet' to your Louis Vuitton handbag collection. Available for $1650 via eLUXURY's Louis Vuitton Boutique.

Celebrity Style: Louis Vuitton Monogram Satin Aumônière

Christina Ricci photo via Celebutopia

Christina Ricci has ditched her former modern Gothic style for a more refined, chic look. The petite actress attended the Louis Vuitton Gala honoring the opening of Takashi Murakami's retrospective exhibition at L.A.'s MoCA Museum. The former LV collaborator has issued a new line of handbags and accessories for Louis Vuitton which will be sold exclusively at the museum. I'm sure Christina got first dibs on the latest Murakami designs. Ms. Ricci was the picture of perfection on the red carpet dressed in a stunning LBD, sporting gold pumps and carrying a Louis Vuitton bag, of course. Her choice in hand candy was none other than the exquisite Monogram Satin Aumônière.

Crafted from black mini monogram-patterned silk satin, the 9.5 x 6 x 3 clutch features brass hardware, frame top with logo-engraved kiss-lock closure, lamb leather piping and water-snake trim, retractable chain shoulder strap with water-snake handle and golden leather-lined interior with patch pocket. The most attractive feature on this clutch is its' supple exterior which exudes a classic look perfect for an evening out.Christina's version along with silver and brown silk satin renditions are available through Louis Vuitton's UK website. If you're in the U.S. and are a fan of LV's multicolor collection, then you can add the white multicolor Monogram Satin Aumônière to your collection for $1880 via eLUXURY. The e-tailer is currently out of stock, but they frequently update their inventory (sometimes from one hour to another!).

New Arrivals Alert: Louis Vuitton Mahina XXL

A bag named after a Polynesian deity? Sure, why not. Marc, you're one crafty designer. Only Mr. Jacobs could find inspiration in both religious folklore and SpongeBob SquarePants. Whatever his inspiration was for creating the Mahina collection for Louis Vuitton, it really doesn't matter. The bags are gorgeous. Available in black and grey (shown), the newly arrived Mahina XXL (a smaller XL should be coming along soon) is one enormous bag. Measuring a behemoth 32.3 x 16.5 x 11.4, this slouchy hobo is crafted from soft calfskin leather that's been treated to raise the grain and then coated to preserve the effect. The monogram pattern is perforated into the leather to create a unique design. Additional features include brass hardware, rolled leather handles, side buckled bands creating a "gathered" effect, top flap tab with push-lock closure and lined interior with zip pocket and key ring attachment. My only complaint with the 'Mahina XXL' is that it's just too big. If it were half its' size, it would be perfect. It would also be less expensive, and after I reveal the price, you'll wish it were smaller as well. The Mahina XXL is priced at a staggering $3750 via eLUXURY's exclusive Louis Vuitton boutique.

Celebrity Style: Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Manhattan GM

Jessica Simpson photo via POPSUGAR

If Jessica Simpson's love for ex-hubby Nick Lachey would have been as strong as her love for all things Louis Vuitton, they be enjoying wedded bliss to this day. Let's face it, this pop singer loves LV. From her well-chronicled obsession with the Monogram Multicolore line to her enormous Mono Speedy to her even larger Monogram Olympe Nimbus Bag to her indulgent dog carrier, it seems Jessica can't stay away from Louis Vuitton for too long. Case in point - Jess was recently spotted at her trainer's place toting the fun Monogram Canvas Manhattan GM. I love this particular style. It's got great "bones". The structured, rectangular shape shows off the monogram canvas, gold-tone hardware and cowhide piping very well. Features include dual rolled leather handles, extra-long zip top with buckled strap closure and lined interior with multi-functional storage pockets. Two front push-lock pockets are great for housing keys or other small items. Measurements are 15 x 10.2 x 5.5 - perfect for a woman on the go.

If you share Jessica's penchant for Louis Vuitton bags, here's your chance to nab her style. The Monogram Canvas Manhattan GM is available for $1895 via eLUXURY.

Louis Vuitton Spring 2008 Collection: A Thin Line Between Love and Hate

If you're wondering what my take on Louis Vuitton's Spring 2008 collection is, just re-read the title of this post. I swear no other designer makes me walk that fine line between love and hate more than Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton's creative director. While the deconstructed looks from his namesake collection during New York Fashion Week were a striking commentary on the state of fashion today, the deconstructed looks from his LV collection seemed more like a hodgepodge of fabrics and unflattering silhouettes than a social statement. Louis Vuitton is synonymous with luxury, but these pieces were anything but.
This is not to say there weren't some bright spots. A few looks were quite lovely and inspired and others were downright stunning, but when it was bad, it was awful. By awful, I'm referring to the majority of Louis Vuitton's handbag collection. Some bags I liked. Some bags I loved, and some I absolutely hate.

Liked
Multi-colored monogram bags are back and better than ever; some handbags bore their style name on a detachable tag (hate the "naming bags" idea, but at least it's removable).

Loved
New styles done in gorgeous color combinations were the highlight of this collection.

Hate
Some color combinations were garish and flopped on many levels. While some bags sported their style names on a tag, others had the names displayed front and center (very tacky). Clutches and handbags displaying comic-like prints on the front were plain silly.

Speaking of silly bags, take a look at the sure to be limited edition piece Marc Jacobs toted down the runway. If I see one celebrity carrying this "SpongeBob SquarePants bag" next year, I will laugh my head off. Seriously, what fashionista or handbag collector would be caught dead with such a waste of a handbag? I don't know the answer to that yet, but I'm sure we'll find out next spring. A thin line between love and hate indeed.

A Rainbow Of Handbags

According to Judy Garland, what lies just over the rainbow is a flock of blue birds flying swiftly through the air. If you believe in folklore, then it's a pot of gold. Now I can't speak for all of you, but I know what lies WITHIN a rainbow - cool, colorful handbags!

Feast your eyes on these lovely rainbow-colored bags. Whether it's Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, a bag with some color - any color- is bound to lift your spirits and get you noticed. I love blue birds, and I certainly wouldn't mind a nice pot of gold to fund my fashion expenses. Yet, if dreams really do come true, I'd have a closet filled with bags representing every color in the rainbow. If you feel the same, browse the selection below to start making your wish a reality.

Celebrity Style: Random Celebrity Handbag Sightings

Celebrities have been out and about which gives us plenty to look at in terms of arm candy. Let's examine the ladies in question for this installment of random celebrity handbag sightings. Starting us off is Katherine Heigl. The Gray's Anatomy star looked relaxed as she ran errands recently. Of course, the fashionable celebrity combines casual with designer very well. Notice the gorgeous cream-colored shoulder bag she's toting. Any guesses who designed it? It's from none other than "I'm Not A Plastic Handbag" fame, Anya Hindmarch. The Elrod Naplak Shoulder Bag is currently sold out on-line, and I can see why. The large 17.5 x 15.5 x 6 design is made from leather and features a shoulder strap with Anya's "signature" hook attachments in addition to a front logo plate, weighted tab closure, rear zip pocket and textile-lined interior with zip and patch pockets, a cell phone pouch and key hook. The 'Elrod' is a chic bag with a functional side that's appealing to busy fashionistas. Katherine chose well and so can you. Contact Anya Hindmarch (212-750-3974 in NYC) or (310-271-9707 in L.A.) for availability. The cost - $1185.

Jessica Simpson causes a stir everywhere she goes. She's pictured here walking through the airport carrying two Louis Vuitton bags and each served their own distinct purpose. Her Monogram canvas Beverly GM handbag, which measures $1410 (via eLUXURY) and measures an ample 17 x 10 x 7.5, features LV's signature monogram canvas trimmed in natural cowhide and accented with brass hardware. The padded dual shoulder straps, top flap with push-lock closure, side snaps for expansion, rear patch pocket, protective bottom feet and lined interior with a large flap pocket, cell phone pouch and key ring round out this well-designed LV style. While Jessica loves Louis Vuitton, the depth of her appreciation for the French design house is more ardently expressed in her second bag. The Sac Chien 50 dog carrier, gifted to Ms. Simpson by former husband Nick Lachey along with her precious pooch Daisy, measures a roomy 20 x 13 x 9 and is priced at a hefty $1850. Monogram canvas, cowhide trim, brass-tone hardware, rolled leather top handles, dual zipped top, side roll-up flap with fasteners and mesh window, front/back reinforcing straps for a stable, structured shape and a forgiving washable lining make this carrier the Cadillac of puppy gear.

Finally, we arrive at this week's truly random handbag sighting. While Kate Moss looks annoyingly chic as always, I was more interested in the black satchel carried by her almost out of view friend, assistant, etc (?). The simple yet well-made bag in question is from Mulberry's latest collection. The Mabel Satchel Bag, available in a myriad of colors, finishes and corresponding price points, measures a modest 11.5 x 9.5 x 4.5. The soft and absolutely delicious goat leather exterior is accented by minimal gold-tone hardware and features dual top handles, front side-by-side zip pockets, wrap-around buckled strap closure, interior and exterior open pockets for additional storage and an attached mirror ideal for the vain (and practical) fashionista in us all. Nab the understated Mabel Satchel Bag for $1200 via Mulberry.

Celebrity Style: Louis Vuitton Dentelle Fersen Bag

Photo via Daily Stab

A few months ago I reviewed the Louis Vuitton Dentelle Fersen Bag. Since then I had not come across a single person (whether in photographs or in person) carrying the dreadful hag bag. Until now, that is. How fitting that the celebrity spotted toting the LV shoulder bag was none other than pseudo-celeb Shanna Moakler. To be perfectly honest, I'm not one bit surprised she favored this design. It suits her perfectly. I'll just leave it at that.

If you want to steal Shanna's style (?) and snag a Dentelle Fersen Bag, visit your local Louis Vuitton boutique or click here. I'll warn you, it's still out of stock!?!?

Handbag News: A New Meaning to the Term "Doggy Bag"

Via New York Times

I always look forward to Bill Cunningham's On The Street features in the New York Times "Fashion & Style" section. They're usually great eye candy, but, this week, it was a hoot! It seems Prada, Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton are the worst (or at least most repetitive) "doggy bag" offenders. Don't fret ladies, he meant the comparisons in jest.

Celebrity Style: Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork Bag

If you were, let's say, a famous singer with tons of money at your disposal, would you spend $42,000 for this bag? My hope is that everyone answers a resounding NO! The Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork Bag has been touted as the world's most expensive handbag even though it's not - just ask Hermes. I can overlook the shameless and misdirected advertising, but not offensive handbag design. The best thing I can say about this bag is that several, more inviting LV bags were harmed to make it. I would have spent the $42,000 on the contributing bags separately and taken the leftover cash straight to Hermes for a Birkin.

Back to Beyonce, though. Obviously, one of two things happened here. She was either "gifted" this special edition hag bag with the understanding she would model it for LV, or she actually forked over $42k (or even a discounted amount) for it. Let's pray it was the former, because the latter would make me think Beyonce belongs in the loony bin. Fortunately for her, she'd have 23 other equally crazy ladies to keep her company since only 24 of these were made. I sure hope Beyonce looks "bootylicious" in a straight-jacket ;-)

New Arrivals Alert: Louis Vuitton Monogram Denim Neo Cabby MM

I wouldn't normally justify paying over $1000 for a denim handbag, but if it's Louis Vuitton I'll make an exception. I haven't been tempted by any of the styles from LV's Monogram Denim line until now. Newly available at eLUXURY is this Monogram Denim Neo Cabby MM. This wonderful, timeless shape adds the perfect touch of class to what might otherwise appear as a "teenybopper" bag. The combination of monogram denim, brass hardware and light calf leather trim offers a striking look to this fun design. Use the rolled leather handles to carry it as a handbag or a detachable shoulder strap which can be adjusted for over the shoulder or messenger-style use. The softly pleated body and adjustable side buckle straps allow for expansion when needed. A zipped top opens up to reveal the textile-lined interior which features both a patch and cellphone pocket. The 15.3 x 14 x 4.7 measurements are just the right dimensions for a sturdy (and kinda flirty) everyday tote. Who would have thought Louis Vuitton could come up with such a thing? You live and learn! For $1500, it's a bit of a stretch, but hey, it's Louis Vuitton.

***Note: This selection has been popping in and out of the site (which happens quite frequently with new arrivals). Be persistent and check back several times a day until you succeed in pinning it down.***
